Long before European settlers first arrived in this idyllic paradise, Native Americans gathered food, lived, and played along the banks of the Cahaba River in the area that is now Trussville. Being that they lived in a somewhat remote community, the original settlers took mostly to farming. One of these early residents, a North Carolinian named Warren Truss, acquired 1,000 acres and built a mill on the river; it seemed fitting that the town should be named after him.

Early residents had plans to make Trussville a booming industrial center, yet in that regard the city didn't succeed; Trussville's destiny was to become a peaceful residential community, a place for families, reitired folks, and young couples.
